At NYU Langone, we recognize that addiction is a chronic health condition that affects the brain and behavior. It can impact every part of a person’s life—including health, relationships, work, and emotional wellbeing. Recovery looks different for everyone, which is why we provide personalized, collaborative, and evidence-based care.
Our goal is to meet you where you are, with compassion and respect, and to support you in defining what recovery means for you. Some people may want to achieve complete abstinence from substances, while others may focus on harm reduction—such as reducing use or making it safer. Whatever your goals, our team works with you to create a treatment plan that reflects your needs, values, and readiness for change.
NYU Langone offers treatment for substance and alcohol use disorders across multiple clinical sites including outpatient clinics and during medical or surgical hospitalizations.
NYU Langone specialists refer people addicted to alcohol or drugs to a local treatment program. After the person completes treatment, NYU Langone psychiatrists provide counseling to help the person recover.
