Although breast cancer is still more common over age 50, rates among younger women are on the rise. Roughly 10 percent of new cases in the United States are in women younger than 45. The Early Onset Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµapp Program is designed to assist our younger population, ages 45 and younger.
Our program helps young women, ages 45 and under, access gynecologic cancer care, including treatment for cervical, ovarian, endometrial, and vaginal and vulvar cancers.
Diagnoses of early onset colorectal cancer are on the rise: 20 percent of new cases are in people under age 55, about double the rate seen in 1995. Our program ensures that young adults 50 and younger receive personalized treatment for colon or rectal cancers.

Rates of cancer, including breast, gynecologic, and colon cancers, have been on the rise among people under age 50 for several decades. Renowned breast cancer surgeon Mary L. Gemignani, MD, MPH, is the visionary behind the creation of the Early Onset Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµapp Program and serves as program director. A multidisciplinary advisory committee provides advice on program initiatives.
Our multidisciplinary team includes experts in breast cancer, gynecologic cancer, colon and rectal cancer, hematology oncology, neuro-oncology, sarcoma, and radiation oncology. We collaborate with surgeons, medical oncologists, and radiation oncologists across all Perlmutter locations. So no matter what doctor you see, you may access the range of services available through the Early Onset Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµapp Program.
