As a single point of connection to the vast resources of our integrated health system, we help you navigate cancer-related clinical care for your type of cancer and connect you with support services matching your specific needs—before, during, and after treatment.

We offer the region’s only fully integrated, multidisciplinary program serving each of the following populations:

Breast �鶹��Ƶapp in Young Adults

Although breast cancer is still more common over age 50, rates among younger women are on the rise. Roughly 10 percent of new cases in the United States are in women younger than 45. The Early Onset �鶹��Ƶapp Program is designed to assist our younger population, ages 45 and younger.

Early Onset Gynecologic �鶹��Ƶapp

Our program helps young women, ages 45 and under, access gynecologic cancer care, including treatment for cervical, ovarian, endometrial, and vaginal and vulvar cancers.

Early Onset Colon and Rectal �鶹��Ƶapp

Diagnoses of early onset colorectal cancer are on the rise: 20 percent of new cases are in people under age 55, about double the rate seen in 1995. Our program ensures that young adults 50 and younger receive personalized treatment for colon or rectal cancers.

Adolescent and Young Adult �鶹��Ƶapp Program

The Adolescent and Young Adult �鶹��Ƶapp (AYA) Program at Perlmutter �鶹��Ƶapp Center serves adolescents and young adults ages 15 to 39 who have one of the following cancers:

• adult blood cancers
• pediatric blood cancers
• adult neurologic cancers, including brain and spine tumors
• brain and spinal cord tumors in children
• adult sarcomas
• sarcomas in children

Our AYA Program partners with our adult and pediatric cancer specialists to provide tailored treatment and services to improve the quality of life of adolescents and young adults.

Tailored Support Services for Younger �鶹��Ƶapp Patients

Rates of cancer, including breast, gynecologic, and colon cancers, have been on the rise among people under age 50 for several decades. These diagnoses not only impact overall health but can pose fertility concerns and other challenges. Some cancer treatments can also lead to side effects that require supportive care.

Through the Early Onset �鶹��Ƶapp Program, we offer the following services:

• fertility services
• support for LGBTQ+ individuals
• social work services for young adults
• genetic counseling and testing
• cancer in pregnancy
• adolescents and young adult (AYA) resources

We assist existing patients as well as young people who are seeking a second opinion.

Program Leadership

Renowned breast cancer surgeon Mary L. Gemignani, MD, MPH, is the visionary behind the creation of the Early Onset �鶹��Ƶapp Program and serves as program director. A multidisciplinary advisory committee provides advice on program initiatives.

Our multidisciplinary team includes experts in breast cancer, gynecologic cancer, colon and rectal cancer, hematology oncology, neuro-oncology, sarcoma, and radiation oncology. We collaborate with surgeons, medical oncologists, and radiation oncologists across all Perlmutter locations.
