NYU Langone hospitals have achieved an elite distinction in patient safety and quality, joining just 4 percent of hospitals nationwide to receive 10 consecutive “A” grades from The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit watchdog organization focused on healthcare safety and quality. The achievement, based on grades issued twice annually, represents five years of excellence in patient safety standards.
The prestigious “A” rating applies to Tisch Hospital and Kimmel Pavilion in Manhattan, NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn, and NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island.
“This achievement is further validation of the incredible and unwavering commitment by our teams to provide top-quality care, with safety at the forefront, to NYU Langone patients,” said Robert I. Grossman, MD, CEO of NYU Langone Health and dean of . “Leapfrog is one of the barometers any patient should look to in determining the best place to receive their care, and we are so proud of this achievement.”
Twice a year, the Leapfrog Group evaluates nearly 3,000 acute-care hospitals nationwide across 30 evidence-based patient safety performance measures, including the prevention of medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections, and other potential harms to patients. Just over 30 percent of hospitals in the nation, and only 36 hospitals in New York State, achieved an “A” in the spring 2025 survey.
On March 1, NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk joined the system, following a three-year affiliation under its previous name, Long Island Community Hospital. The Patchogue hospital has already shown significant improvements, including a 25 percent decrease in hospital-acquired conditions. The facility is on track to achieve an “A” rating in the future, as the other NYU Langone hospital locations have earned.
The Leapfrog Group is an independent national watchdog organization committed to healthcare quality and safety. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade assigns letter grades to hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, infections, and other harms.
NYU Langone Health is a fully integrated health system that consistently achieves the best patient outcomes through a rigorous focus on quality that has resulted in some of the lowest mortality rates in the nation. Vizient Inc. has ranked NYU Langone No. 1 out of 115 comprehensive academic medical centers across the nation for three years in a row, and U.S. News & World Report recently placed nine of its clinical specialties among the top five in the nation.
