Welcome to the

Cutaneous Oncology & Melanoma Program

The goal is to remove skin cancer within two weeks of your initial consultation.

The Cutaneous Oncology and Melanoma Program, part of NYU Langone Health’s Perlmutter Â鶹ÊÓƵapp Center, is a one-stop shop for treating and monitoring all forms of skin cancer. We welcome patient referrals for all forms of melanoma and nonmelanoma skin cancer, as well suspected skin cancers requiring prompt diagnostic testing.

Our centralized approach enables patients on Long Island to receive all necessary treatment and consultations in one place, close to home—making your care more convenient. We also strive to minimize wait times. In most cases, skin cancer removal is scheduled within two weeks of the initial consultation.

Conditions We Treat

Our team treats a wide range of conditions, including the following:

If a skin growth or lesion is found to be precancerous, we remove it to prevent cancer from developing.

Skin Â鶹ÊÓƵapp Procedures We Perform

Patients cleared for surgery at our outpatient location in Mineola are treated under local anesthesia. That means they can drive to their appointment and back home afterward, and there’s no need for fasting in advance of the procedure. Most procedures are completed in under an hour.

Our team treats cancerous and noncancerous conditions using either wide excision or Mohs surgery. For optimal cosmetic outcomes, a plastic surgeon is available on-site at the time of the procedure to close the excision. Plastic surgery is offered to all patients but is completely optional.

We also offer restorative dermatology, including micropigmentation and laser treatment, to improve the appearance of scars and support improved wound healing.

As a patient in our program, you have access to cutting-edge technology as well as clinical trials, ensuring top-tier skin cancer treatment. We also work closely with your private dermatologist to ensure ongoing skin surveillance and comprehensive care.

Our Intake Process

Typically, we see patients referred by their private dermatologist, although someone seeking evaluation of an irregular mole may schedule directly with us. A nurse practitioner from our program conducts the initial consultation by video visit. In-person appointments are also available.

During intake, we confirm the diagnosis and discuss treatment options and next steps. We also handle all necessary insurance authorizations. Our goal is to schedule skin cancer removal within two weeks of the initial consultation. Most patients have their procedure on the same day they visit our office in person for the first time.

Our Multidisciplinary Team

Our team includes surgical oncologists, dermatologists, plastic surgeons, medical oncologists, dermatopathologists, and nurse practitioners who specialize in skin cancer care. Led by Gary B. Deutsch, MD, our experts are committed to providing personalized and effective treatment plans.

Our program also has an onco–dermatologist who cares for rashes and other non-surgical skin side effects related to a person’s cancer treatment.
