About Me
As a breast surgical oncologist at NYU Langone, I am dedicated to providing empathetic and patient–centered care. I believe that trust and compassion are essential during the most vulnerable times of a breast cancer diagnosis. Having grown up in Brooklyn, I am a lifelong New Yorker with a deep connection to the community. This personal history strengthens my commitment to supporting my patients throughout their healthcare journeys.
I specialize in treating women with breast cancer and other breast conditions. My clinical research has focused on improving access to care, particularly for women who present with advanced breast cancer. I have extensive experience in building comprehensive breast services, having led the breast service at Bellevue Hospital for 11 years. As co-director of the Beatrice W. Welters Breast Health Outreach and Navigation Program, I have helped over 26,000 women gain access to breast cancer screening and support services across New York City.
Throughout my career, I have leveraged my research to provide state-of-the-art care for my patients. I am actively involved in several leading national organizations in surgical oncology, where I lead and serve on key committees. In addition, I contribute to the field as a member of the editorial boards of prominent journals such as Annals of Surgical Oncology and the American Journal of Surgery. My dedication to advancing breast cancer care has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Gay Clark Stoddard Memorial Award from the Susan G. Komen Foundation and the American Â鶹ÊÓƵapp Society Eastern Division Leader in Â鶹ÊÓƵapp Care Award.
My path to medicine was deeply personal—shaped by my family's strong history of cancer that includes my mother, aunts, cousins, and second cousins. This personal experience propelled me to pursue medical school at the Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, followed by general surgery residency training at NYU Langone and a breast surgical oncology fellowship at Columbia University. Today, I am proud to be part of NYU Langone, where I collaborate with a dedicated team to ensure the highest standard of comprehensive and coordinated care for my patients.

Research Summary
The overall goal of my clinical research and academic endeavors has been to examine health care disparities and strategies to improve outcome in underserved women affected by breast cancer or at increased risk for breast cancer. Despite the improved survival rate for breast cancer patients over the past several decades, the mortality rates for sub-groups, especially African-American women have not changed and a gap remains. My research has primarily focused on why these gaps exists, with my efforts primarily in the clinical and community based settings.
I am also co-director of the Bea Welters Breast Health Outreach and Navigation Program which serves to improve outcomes for underserved women with breast cancer by reducing barriers to quality care by advancing an effective and scalable community-based navigation model for reducing disparities in screening and diagnostic follow-up care in medically underserved women, improve access to and use of high quality breast cancer care and supportive services at Bellevue, Tisch and NYU Lutheran hospitals among underserved women utilizing patient navigation and to increase access to and participation in clinical trials for the most promising and innovative therapies for breast cancers among underserved women.
