I specialize in developmental behavioral pediatrics (DBP), providing assessments and treatment/management for children, adolescents, and young adults with many different kinds of developmental conditions. The patients I see have conditions such as autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, learning disorders, and other developmental and behavioral conditions. I am happy to help families manage and navigate the many challenges involved in parenting their children and adolescents with special needs, challenges that often include complex medical, emotional, educational, behavioral, and legal issues.

I grew up in the Bronx, going to elementary and high school there, and went to Massachusetts for college. When I entered college as a freshman, I knew I wanted to become a physician. When I enrolled in NYU School of Medicine in 1981, I thought I was going to be an obstetrician. However, during my rotation in obstetrics–gynecology I discovered that I liked the idea of the specialty a lot more than I liked the actual experience, and was at a bit of a loss about which field to go into. When I rotated through pediatrics, I knew right away I had finally discovered what I wanted to do.

Over the course of my career, I have supervised and taught DBP to innumerable medical students, pediatric residents, and fellows, and served as a consultant on local and regional governmental and private policy/advisory committees and boards related to children with special needs.

With my students, and in my advisory work, I always try to promote the idea that each individual has potential; one of the most important things we can do is to help them and their families to discover and to be able to reach it, no matter at what level it lies.
